“Coming together with Smithfield Foods and their world class team to craft a truly distinctive and authentic Craft Beer Bratwurst is not only a great combination for our customers, but also an exciting opportunity to celebrate Arcadia’s 20 years of bringing artisanal beers and food together in 2016.”
– Tim Suprise, President, Arcadia Ales
It all Started in 2011 when Smithfield Foods – a quality pork producer since 1936 and now world-famous for its Smithfield Ham – embarked on a search for a regional brewer to collaborate on a new beer bratwurst that would be the perfect centerpiece to summer grilling.
Smithfield had previously worked with other breweries, but the beer brat needed something different, and Smithfield knew they’d found the perfect match when they married up their unique brat recipe with the Whitsun brewed by Arcadia Ales in Kalamazoo, MI.
A seasonal wheat summer ale, Whitsun is brewed in the style of a mid-19th century English Festival Ale. It’s an unfiltered wheat beer, translucent orange, and topped with a creamy, white head. The wheat used to brew enhances the mouthfeel and produces pleasant bread-like notes, while Michigan honey provides a caramelized sweetness. Arcadia Whitsun is spiced with orange peel, coriander, and small amounts of three hop varieties that pleasantly counterbalance the sweetness.
Arcadia Whitsun Beer Bratwurst is available only at Meijer starting in April. Look for it now, but don’t wait too long. This delicious brat will last only as long as Arcadia Whitsun and warm summer evenings.
